Die Gruppenausstellung „The Male Figure“ zählt zum Markenkern der Kunstbehandlung. Es ist dieses Jahr die 10. Ausgabe dieses erfolgreichen Formates, im 25. Jubiläumsjahr der Kunstbehandlung. Die Ausstellung wird von der Stiftung Kunstfonds im Rahmen des von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien initiierten Programms NEUSTART KULTUR gefördert.

Als optische Einladung dient eine Interpretation von Velázquez‘ Venus vor dem Spiegel durch den Münchner Künstler Robert C. Rore, worin sowohl die Venus selbst und der Putto durch Mannsbilder ersetzt sind. Besagtes Velázquez-Gemälde hat über die Jahrhunderte für Geilheit und Aufregung gesorgt. In der Londoner National Gallery, wo es seit gut einhundert Jahren hängt, wurde es Ziel der Messerattacke einer Suffragette. Ob nun zwei Männer in derselben Position für ähnliche Aufregung sorgen, bleibt abzuwarten.

International group exhibition – 10th anniversary

We proudly present a group exhibition "The Male Figure". The brand essence on its 10th edition in the 25th anniversary year of Kunstbehandlung. This successful and acclaimed format is partly funded by the Stiftung Kunstfonds as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR programme, which is initiated by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media this year.

As in previous years we are inviting artists from all over the world. They join and complement our Munich based artists and their works in order to present a cornucopia of new and selected perspectives of men in visual art. We are looking forward to works by artists based in the US and Russia, from China and Japan as well as from several European neighbours. The exhibition includes a wide range of depictions of men: paintings, works of art made in paper, graphics and sculptures.

The visual invitation is an interpretation of Velázquez's painting “Rokeby Venus” by the Munich based artist Robert C. Rore. He replaced both Venus and the putto by erotic men. The Velázquez painting in question has been a source of lust and excitement over centuries.

In London's National Gallery, where it is on display for well over a hundred years, it even was the target of a knife attack by a suffragette. It remains to be seen whether two men in the same position will cause similar excitement or even outrage some 100 years later at the Kunstbehandlung.
